Elvira's Mexican Grill
About This Spot
Stepping into Elvira's Mexican Grill feels like finding a little hidden treasure tucked away just off the beaten path of Simi Valley. Nestled inside a modest strip center, the restaurant invites you to slow down and savor moments that stretch beyond the usual buzz. The lighting is soft and intimate, casting a warm glow that makes every evening here feel gently unhurried — a perfect backdrop for quiet conversations or those comfortable silences shared over a carefully crafted meal.
The air hums with the subtle energy of a local gathering spot where familiar faces and new arrivals alike are welcomed with genuine warmth. The staff moves with an easy attentiveness, balancing friendliness with a relaxed professionalism that keeps the mood inviting rather than rushed. Here, you’re not just another order on the docket; you’re part of the story unfolding in this cozy room.
The food at Elvira’s mirrors this spirit of thoughtful care — dishes that carry authentic flavors yet steer clear of the overly familiar. It’s the kind of place where the spice notes reveal layers, inviting you to lean in and discover something a bit different with each bite. Whether you're savoring tangy, freshly made horchata, enjoying the fresh brightness of mango margaritas, or sharing plates that mix classic favorites with subtle twists, the menu feels like a gentle conversation between tradition and personal touch.
This isn’t the kind of Mexican grill that’s easy to spot from the street or shout from the rooftops. Instead, its true presence is found in the moments shared here — a thoughtful server ensuring your glass never runs dry, a bartender who remembers your favorite drink, or the art adorning the walls that adds layers of character to the experience. It’s a place where being known and feeling at ease matter just as much as the food.
Because Elvira’s is a little tucked away, discovering it feels like unwrapping a gift. And once you do, it’s clear this is a corner of Simi Valley that values connection — through meaningful flavors, the pace of the evening, and the sense of being part of something quietly special.

Everyone we met there the host, the server, and the bartender we're all talkative and friendly. My Diablo shrimp was flavorful I would order again, the atmosphere was relaxing, overall a very pleasant experience. The location is a little tricky to find as it's inside a small Strip Center not easily visible from the street. Not being from the area we were there on business. I recommend giving it a try

This place was great. Service was on point every step of the meal. Inside there are beautiful pieces of art. They keep the lights low which is romantic, but not so low you can't see your food. Food was good. Portions were plentiful. Would come again.

I recently made the journey from Palmdale to experience this charming eatery, and it was well worth it. Though the space is cozy, the atmosphere is warm and inviting, and the staff's attentiveness made us feel right at home. Our server was exceptional—attentive without being intrusive, ensuring our glasses were never empty and that we had everything we needed. The kitchen deserves special mention; the dishes were bursting with flavor, showcasing the chefs' dedication and skill. Overall, the combination of delightful cuisine, attentive service, and a welcoming ambiance made for a memorable dining experience. Highly recommend this spot to anyone in the area or willing to make the trip.

I was a visitor from Canada and had asked around about true Mexican food and drinks. Elvira was one recommended. Glad I went!! Great service, food and for me, atmosphere. My fav was being remembered each time I returned. I absolutely loved this place!! My favourite bartender in Simi Valley as well. Thanks for making me feel like family

Love this cute place! One of these stars is dedicated to the free tootsie rolls. Everyone is super friendly and the food is spiced differently so it doesn't taste like every other Mexican restaurant. Just loved it and loved reading their story on the menu.

We loved our first meal at Elvira's. We're vegetarian and sometimes have difficulty finding quality vegetarian Mexican food. That definitely was not a problem at Elvira's. We ordered a vegetarian fajita salad and a vegetarian fajita with an extra order of tortillas so I could share it with my young son. We also had a Corona Light and a 20 oz. 805 draft beer. The veggie fajita came with thinly sliced yellow squash, zucchini, onion and green pepper served on a smoking hot cat iron skillet. They were well seasoned and tender crisp. The fajita came with a small side of guacamole and salsa, plus Mexican rice and black beans. This was a truly delicious meal--maybe in the top 3 best vegetarian Mexican meals I've ever had. The veggie fajita salad was prepared table side. Check out the photo of our waiter preparing it. It included the same vegetables as the traditional fajita, but with lettuce, avocado and dressing. My wife really liked it, but she craved starchy food with it, so she ate one of my tortillas. I highly recommend Elvira's for an authentic Mexican experience. The staff were so friendly, including the owner, who stopped by to chat. Prices are reasonable, too, and the service was amazing, but if you're going on a weekend night ( Fri/Sat), definitely arrive early (by 5:30) or you'll have a long Wait for seating and to have your meal.

Fast and friendly service, food came out super quick and hot, and tasted delicious! I got the grilled steak fajita burrito. Will definitely come back.

My wife and I decided to come here to grab lunch because we were near by. My wife wanted a new Mexican place so I saw this place on Yelp and decided to give it a try. I came right when they open so I got the parking in the front. We got seated right away and then a lot of people starting coming after us. They started off giving us chips and salsa which were really good. My wife got their horchata drink which she loved and I asked for a Pepsi but it was flat so I got water instead. For our entrees, my wife got their Chicken Mole and she really enjoyed her dish. I got the steak and chicken fajitas, I asked for flour tortilla and no beans. When they brought the fajitas to me, it wasn't sizzling like other places when you see people order it but the dish was hot. The steak and chicken were seasoned nicely but you don't get a lot of veggies besides onions. I also didn't get any sauce with it so I used the chips salsa which give it some extra taste. The customer service was great especially when they only had 1 waitress working and we had a great time dining here.
